Sep 16 Man fell overboard from the ship ahead of us. A shipmate jumped in save him. We lowered boat, of which I was coxswain, and picked them up.

1505 Underway for Sansapor, New Guinea. Went to GQ. One Jap plane came over convoy ships in convoy opened fire but plane climbed out of range of our guns. It was our first time to fire on Jap aircraft.

Oct 20 Had an attack by four Jap planes. One crashed into a Liberty ship. Another Liberty ship was torpedoed. Convoy shot down two of the planes.

1044 Anchored in San Pedro Bay
1130 Raised anchor and beached near air strip. Unloaded in about two hours. Retracted and anchored. One Jap plane came over late in afternoon, but didn’t do any damage.
Oct 230315 General quarters. At daylight we discovered we were stuck on sand bar. Other L.S.T.s in convoy got underway for New Guinea. Got off sand bar around 1100, but run aground again not much hope of getting off this time with out help. Had several G.Q.s throughout day.
Oct 24 Bunce, S.W. was wounded. Several G.Q.s throughout day. Shot down our first Jap plane a Sally about 150 yards off our port bow. She was diving for the ship. The Sonama, a tug, was hit while on her way to pull us off the sand bar. A Jap plane crash dived into her.
Oct 250130 The tug Quapow #110 pulled us off sand bar. Anchored in bay. Shot down our second Jap plane, a Val, off our port bow. Had 26 air raids throughout the day. Had a few near misses by bombs. Abbott wounded.
Oct 261612 Underway for Hollandia, New Guinea. Had an attack on convoy by 35 planes just before dark.

Nov 231530 Had an attack by lone Jap plane. He was shot down off our starboard bow.

Dec 130800 General quarters. Escort shot down four or five Jap planes. General quarter again. U.S.S. Nashville was hit by suicide diver causing her to return to Leyte for repairs.
Dec 141000 General quarters. Our fighters shot down around ten Jap planes. Saw a few good fights between Jap planes and P-38s. No damage to convoy.

0845 Beached at White beach, Mindoro with first wave if L.S.T.s to beach. L.S.T. 738 and 742 hit by suicide dives while waiting to beach. Underway for Leyte around 2000.

Dec 21 Had an attack by fifteen Jap planes late in afternoon. We were third ship in outside column of convoy. L.S.T. 748, the lead ship and L.S.T. 460, the second ship in the column were hit by suicide dives. We picked  up survivors from the 460. The last ship in the column, a Liberty was hit by a bomb, but she didn’t sink.
