I like this unattributed quote: “In a dog-eat-dog world, it is the dogmatic domain of dog lovers to offer dogdom a dog’s chance to rise above the dog days for a doggone good time”. Something in these words rings true — even as I consider exactly what it is.
It’s the dog days of summer now — a reference to an old belief that Sirius, also called the Dog Star, was somehow responsible for the hot weather as it rose just before or with the Sun. In ancient Rome the dog days were believed to be an evil time “when the seas boiled, wine turned sour, dogs grew mad, and all creatures became languid, causing [for people] burning fevers, hysterics, and phrensies.”
That sounds about right. “Feels like” temperatures of 100+(F) send us looking for the comfort of air conditioned spaces and all of life seems to move at a quieter, slightly lazier pace. What to do? I think we’ll take Bob and Izzy and go looking for a doggone good time. Stay cool.

If it weren’t for the mountains around me, I would swear I was living in Florida right now!!!
We’ve had an abundance of hot and humid weather this summer. Looking forward to heading your way where at least we know it’s suppose to be hot.
